A rare Lynton Majorca holiday home from the 1960s

Lynton Majorca holiday home

A rare 1965 Lynton Majorca holiday home spotted near Dundee.

Over the Christmas and New Year period I was up in Scotland. I couldn’t resist showing this 1960’s rare holiday caravan. It was behind a deserted house in the back garden.

As soon as I saw it I knew it was a rare Lynton Majorca from 1965.

Its many years since I saw one of these and although still intact it was looking worse for wear plus I reckon it had been in that spot for many a year too! It’s still good to see these old holiday homes still surviving.

New Manchester Caravan Show venue proves a major success

Manchester Caravan and Motorhome Show

New Caravan and Motorhome Show venue proved a roaring success and deservedly so.

I am just back from the new Manchester Caravan and Motorhome Show venue – the new Event City was simply brilliant!

This new venue (replacing G.Mex) has made it so much easier to view tourers, holiday homes, park homes and motorhomes. I did all but one G.Mex show (that was the first in 1986) but it had outgrown its venue. The move to Trafford Park Event City has been a big success, no doubt helped by the axed Birmingham NEC show (a great loss I think).

I was there for three days out of the four and I was very encouraged with the vast amount of interest in caravanning and motorhome usage too.

Check out Elddis and Lunar’s new caravan models

Elddis Avante 574 interior

The interior of the Elddis Avante 574 caravan feels modern and easy to live with.

I drove over to Consett to see Elddis Caravans – and checked out four tourers including the brand new Elddis Avante 574 a twin bed end washroom layout. Priced below £16k and weighing just over 1,400 kgs it’s the lightest and cheapest of its kind in the market-for now anyhow!

The Elddis Crusader Shamal, again in the same layout, is a big chunk of tourer but well specified and less than £21k. Checked out the Elddis Xplore too, they are great value and well finished but I reckon there going to have to be given a facelift soon.

Sprite’s Musketeer EB caravan and a trip to Delamere Forest

Delamere Forest, Camping and Caravanning Club site

Camping and Caravanning Club's site at Delamere Forest is well situated. We can't wait to get back.

Just before Christmas I had a rather busy schedule to get through, but one of my first jobs was to get a Sprite Musketeer EB and take it away for a weekend.

Skoda UK, as helpful as ever, loaned me a new Octavia SE-Plus petrol engine estate. It was going to have its work cut out as I used it to tow another five caravans!!

Anyhow, some months earlier I had driven past the Camping and Caravanning Club’s Delamere Forest site and was impressed by its surroundings.
