First trip out with new towcar… and a rare Safari classic caravan

16th April, 2012 - 5:54pm
Skoda Superb tow car and Bailey Ranger caravan

My newly acquired Skoda Superb tow car with our Bailey Ranger GT60 500/5 caravan.

As Easter approached and the threat of fuel strikes faded, the effect on caravanners and motorhome users would ease and many parks became booked up.

Not even the weather could dampen the first bank holiday as I found out when we hitched up our Bailey Ranger to the recently acquired Skoda Superb as our new tow car.

Introducing Lunar’s Venus Caravans brand

Light and tiny - that's the promise for these low-cost Venus touring caravans.

Lunar is definitely on to something with its ever so lightweight Venus Caravans brand.

At the moment, it’s a four-model line-up, but the key selling point here is the “double whammy” of some especially keen pricing allied to extra low weights. This, from a company that already specialises in keeping the weights down right across its main caravan range.

Glasgow Caravan Show – fewer visitors but sales hold

21st February, 2012 - 9:15am
Glasgow SECC Caravan Show

The SECC in Glasgow was the Scottish Caravan Show venue. Good access and car parking.

Well I have finally come back to earth after what’s seemed to have been an intense two weeks of walking around shows!

So what’s been happening? Well just a fortnight after the success of the Manchester Show at its new event, would Scotland’s Caravan & Outdoor Leisure Show at the SECC in Glasgow prove a success?

Well I have to admit I have a soft spot for the Scottish Show, because it packs so much in! Boats, holiday homes, tourers, motorhomes and park homes it’s all there – well laid out on display. So what was new at Glasgow?

After Discover Leisure… back to family values

23rd January, 2012 - 4:49pm
Kimberley Caravans, Darlington

Now under the Kimberley banner, the Discover site formerly known as Barrons in Darlington.

Wow, things have moved pretty quickly since the Discover Leisure mega-group of dealers went under. You might remember it was only last October that we reported the group, that at one time comprised 16 of the UK’s biggest caravan and motorhome dealerships, went into administration (see blog post).

When it all finally came to a halt, it was down to five branches, but I think now is a good time for a recap on what’s happened since. First came the news that Catterick Caravans had taken over two former Discover sites near its own impressive North Yorkshire base. The premises at Birtley, Tyne and Wear and Flaxton Moor, York are back up and running already as Tyneside Leisure World and Ebor Leisureworld respectively.
