The National Motorhome Show in Peterborough

Great for browsing - that's the National Motorhome Show at Peterborough this weekend.

For anyone with an inkling, hankering or even just a passing interest in all things motorhomes, there’s only one place to be this coming weekend. For the 22nd year running, it’s the National Motorhome Show at the East of England Showground, Peterborough.

There are plenty of other outdoor motorhomes shows taking place throughout the year but, believe me, this one is “the daddy”. I’ve been to a few of these over the years. I’ve missed a fair few, too. This time around I’m keen to get there on the Sunday.

A winning tow car and caravan outfit in Holland

2nd April, 2012 - 8:17am
At Harwich port waiting to board Stena Line's Hollandica ferry.

Overnight success? Arriving at Harwich for the 23.00hrs Stena Line crossing.

I’m writing (and sending) this whilst on board Stena Line’s Hollandica ferry, the overnight crossing from Harwich to Hook of Holland.

I’m with my family, and tucked away some eight decks below us is a winning combination of Volkswagen’s Jetta towing an Adria Altea 432PX.

The Jetta is the slightly controversial winner of the latest Caravan Club Towcar of the Year award (TCOTY).

Another motorhome dealership closes along with a magazine

The story of Sprite Caravans

My new book "the story of Sprite Caravans" is now in stock and available to order from Veloce Publishing.

I have to start with some bad news on my caravan blog this week, namely the closure of the Brownhills branch near Preston. This motorhome dealership has been around for many years (since the early 1970’s).

Known as Maddison Motor Caravans the firm had begun at Southport and by the early 1970s had moved to just outside Preston. It was a well known motorhome dealership and it did see a name change and ownership.

Caravan nostalgia: Adria Exclusive dealer special to a Cara-Ski!

Swfit Challenger Sport caravan

The new Swift Challenger Sport 554 touring caravan.

It’s the end of the Autumn school term and the caravan sites seem to have been busy, with touring caravans and motorhomes (plus of course, the weather was generally good too).

I was down in my favourite haunt – North Wales, a superb place to use either a motorhome or tourer. I still discover roads that I haven’t been down. I also visited some new dealers and found some caravan nostaglia.

While away I have been testing a new Swift Challenger Sport 554, the fixed bed end washroom caravan model.
