My Bailey Ranger GT60 caravan was all loaded up, ready for my two week trip away. A week at the Caravan Club’s Abbey Woods site, followed by a week up at Henley on Thames.

However, with the recent troubles we decided to make a last minute change of plan.

A change which fitted in with some television work I was scheduled to do.

The new Bailey Olympus 2 twin axle model is from the Bailey Ranger days.

The new Bailey Olympus caravan is now officially launched! So what is it like?

Well, very much a Bailey Pegasus 2!  A 7ft 2 width is thankfully maintained and so is the profile (unfortunately), but the new windows front and side look loads better than the original Bailey Olympus.

It is not often I can find real classic caravans that have so much background on them that it basically tells the history of the caravan from day one. Some time ago while I was stopping on Low Park Wood Caravan Club site, one of the wardens tipped me off that a very old touring caravan had come on site.

It is the school holidays with families getting set for a trip away in their touring caravan (myself included!) I have just heard on Radio Road News of a few incidents of caravans overturning (jack-knifing). It’s all too easy to forget that loading a caravan to the gills is asking for stability problems. We all know how the kids want to take everything from I-pods to mountain bikes, but careful loading is essential. Apart from a ruined holiday or even folk being put off from towing, it’s an experience you don’t want to encounter. I will be writing a touring caravan towing feature soon and one very important issue will be loading the caravan correctly.
